I receive regular commissions for photography for businesses in Staffordshire. I often work with Construction companies, Estate Agents, Architects and Manufacturing companies. Much of my work involves internal and external photographing of buildings.
However, I’m often asked to photograph people in the workplace. This can mean photographing staff in the office environment either as ‘Meet the team’ staffs headshots and group shots, or more general reportage shots of them in the process of their daily duties. Some clients opt for a more formal ‘staged’ approach, whereas others prefer a more relaxed ‘reportage’ style of photography.
It really depends on the intended end use for the images.
Images can feature in trade journals or local press, whilst others are for use on client’s websites, social media feeds or printed brochures.
No matter where the images are used, one common thread is that they will be used for promotional or marketing purposes. A recent job involved photographing Doug Flynn in action. Doug is an ActionCoach who is passionate about helping business owners reach their professional and personal goals.
My brief was to capture Doug in action at one of his ActionCoach seminars. I say ‘in action’, intending no pun at all. Doug is very animated in his presentations that incites lots of delegate participation. Photographing people in action is largely about timing. Moving subjects can be unpredictable, and difficult to capture in the right place, at the right time. Perseverance and anticipation are key. Plus a little luck.
